Sandy in Dublin
Sandy Leah Lima, born on January 28, 1983, in Campinas, Brazil, is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, and actress. During the early years of her childhood, she and her brother Junior Lima formed a vocal duo. Sandy & Junior gained prominence after a performance on the Som Brasil TV show in 1989, which led to a contract with PolyGram.
After achieving success as child singers, the siblings reached the peak of their commercial career during their teenage years. The albums “Era Uma Vez… Ao Vivo” (1998), “As Quatro Estações” (1999), “Quatro Estações: O Show” (2000), and “Sandy & Junior” (2001) each sold over one million copies, with the first three among the best-selling albums of all time in Brazil.
Subsequent albums saw Sandy and Junior taking more creative control of their projects. The duo disbanded in 2007, following the release of the live recording “Acústico MTV.” In 2019, they reunited for a commemorative tour, “Nossa História,” which became a commercial and critical success. The siblings’ name also became a strong brand, with over 300 licensed products that generated over 300 million Brazilian reais until 2004.
Venturing into a Solo Career
After the duo’s breakup in December 2007, Sandy spent the next two years focusing on her solo career’s production. Additionally, she dedicated time to her personal life. In 2008, Sandy completed her degree in Literature at the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas (PUC) and married musician Lucas Lima, with whom she has a son, born in June 2014.
In 2010, she released her debut solo album, “Manuscrito,” preceded by the single “Pés Cansados,” certified platinum by Pro-Música Brasil (PMB). The album’s tour resulted in her first live recording, “Manuscrito Ao Vivo” (2011).
Her second studio album, “Sim” (2013), produced three singles and reached the ninth position in Brazil. In 2016, Sandy released her second live album, “Meu Canto,” featuring the hit song “Me Espera,” which topped PMB’s DVD chart. In 2018, she released her third studio album, a collaboration project titled “Nós, Voz, Eles.” Apart from commercial success, Sandy has also gained increased critical acclaim for her solo work.
A Versatile Career: Music, Acting, and Television
In addition to her music career, Sandy has made significant contributions to acting. She starred in the TV series “Sandy & Junior,” the soap opera “Estrela-Guia,” the films “Acquária” and “Quando Eu Era Vivo,” and an episode of the series “As Brasileiras.” On television, Sandy also undertook roles as a presenter and served as a technical judge on two seasons of the musical reality show “Superstar.”
A Respected Icon in Brazilian Music
Throughout her career, Sandy, one of Brazil’s top-selling artists, has sold over 20 million albums and accumulated numerous wins and nominations at music awards, including a Latin Grammy nomination. She was recognized as one of the 100 most influential Brazilian personalities of 2013 by Forbes Brazil.
